Infiniti Vehicle History
Infiniti is the luxury auto division of Nissan and was founded in 1989. Infiniti was sold solely in the US and was not sold in Nissan’s home country, Japan. The company strategy was to target luxury vehicle audiences in the U.S. that would not have normally fit the Nissan lineup. Around the same time both Acura by Honda and Lexus by Toyota were developing their new luxury lines. In addition, Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW and Cadillac were all in the premier car market. To compete Nissan’s Infiniti launched two new models the Q45 and the M30 and shortly after in 1990 the Infiniti G20.
In 2010, Infiniti rolled out its new high-performance division. They called it the Infiniti Performance Line or IPL. The first two models introduced under this marquee were the G coupe and convertible and the Q60 coupe and convertible. The performance system improvements included a newly designed exhaust system along with steering and suspension upgrades. In addition, sportier design changes were added to the exterior of the vehicles. Best of all to all speed enthusiasts, the G Coupe debuted with a 348-horsepower engine. Later in 2016, Infiniti would unveil a limited-edition version of the Q60 called the Neiman Marcus Edition. There were only 50 cars built and sold. The IPL introduction proved to be a good addition to the Infiniti lineup.
Currently, Infiniti offers coupes, sedans and crossovers. They are sold in over 50 countries worldwide. Like many current car manufacturers Nissan and Infiniti have programs in place to continue to seek sustainable development. They are also dedicated for virtually zero fatalities in traffic accidents involving their vehicles, in the future.
