Born in 1863, Henry Ford grew up in Michigan, US and was always interested in machinery. He became an apprentice in Detroit and completed his apprenticeship in 1882 and was employed as an engineer at the Edison Illuminating Company of Detroit. His auto career began as a builder in 1893 when his interest in internal combustion engines led him to experimenting with a one-cylinder gasoline model. It was that engine that led him to creating the engine that powered his first Ford car, the Quadricycle. It was completed in 1896. It wasn’t till 1903 that Henry Ford and 12 other individuals invested and created the Ford Motor Company.

By 1908, Ford Motor Company had produced several models including the A, B, C, F, K, N, R and S. The Model T which was produced from 1908 – 1927. By 1914, Ford introduced large scale manufacturing and large-scale management of an industrial workforce using engineered assembly lines. Due to the assembly line craftsmanship, the Model T was one of the first affordable cars for Americans. The Model T allowed Americans to travel like they hadn’t before. In fact, the Model T was awarded the Car of the Century, the most influential car of the 20th century.

Ford’s current headquarters is in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford has additional divisions under the Ford name including Lincoln, Ford’s premier vehicle line and Motorcraft.
