Dodge is a division of FCA US LLC. It has been an American auto manufacturer since the year 1900. Dodge headquarters is in Auburn Hills, Michigan in which they produce Cars, SUVs and Vans. The company was originally founded as the Dodge Brothers Company. The two brothers, Horace Elgin Dodge and John Frances Dodge opened a machine shop that supplied parts and engine components for automakers. The Dodge Brothers Motor Company was established in 1913. In 1914, just one year later the brothers introduced their very first auto. It was a four-cylinder touring car Dodge Model 30/35. In 1916, the brothers also produced many vehicles that were in use during WWI.
In 1920, tragedy struck when both brothers fell ill. John Dodge contracted Pneumonia in January 1920 and passed away. Later in December of the same year, his brother Horace died of Cirrhosis. Once both Dodge brothers passed the company was left into the hands of both widows. They sold the Dodge Brothers Company in 1925 to the investment group Dillon, Read & Co. The widows earned an astonishing 146 million dollars. It was the largest cash transaction in history at the time. Eventually after a bit of market struggle, the investment group sold Dodge to Chrysler Corporation in 1928.
Under Chrysler, Dodge fit in well with the low-cost Plymouth models and the medium priced DeSoto vehicles. At that time, there were 13 Dodge models sold. Once WWII ended, civilian production began again in 1945. Dodge gave their older models a facelift and started selling again. Throughout the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s Dodge added many vehicles to their lineup. Iconic models like the Matador, the Lancer, the Dart, the Coronet, the Demon and the Charger. In the late 20th century, Dodge’s high performing vehicles fell under the SRT division. SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology. The Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Dodge Stealth and the Dodge Viper were all high performance, supercharged vehicles under the SRT badge. Dodge also has become well known for its truck models. In 2011, Dodge separated its trucks into the Ram brand name and later the company separated the brands. The trucks are now sold under RAM trucks.
Today, Dodge vehicles and RAM trucks are sold worldwide. Dodge has a long-standing tradition of being American strong vehicles. The slogan “Born Dodge” released at the 100 year anniversary in 2014, speaks to the timeless Dodge brand of performance.
